5 Reasons You Should Move

Some people like to stay put in the first home they purchase, while others have their Vancouver movers on speed dial because they move around a lot. The majority of people do move a few times in their adult life, and there are many reasons they choose to do so. Here are the top 5 most common reasons people move house.

1. Your house is too small.

Whether it’s a new addition to the family or a change in your needs, you may someday find yourself wanting for more living space. If you’ve got children, they may require their own bedrooms as they get older, or if you have another child, you may need to buy a house with an extra bedroom.

Perhaps you have a dream of having a home office, or a home fitness setup. These projects require space, and if you don’t have it, you’ll have to consider moving.

2. You got a new job.

Even if your new job is in the same city, if it’s an hour across town, you might consider moving to be closer to work. Many people also find themselves moving to accommodate a cross-country job offer or even an international job offer.

There are many benefits to working close to home, including reduced commute times, reduced gas expenses, and more quality time at home. So living closer to where you work is a good reason to move house.

3. You need a change.

If you’ve been living in the same house for 20 years, chances are you’ve gotten into a routine and stayed there. Some people choose to do a renovation project to spruce up their surroundings, while others decide they need a more drastic change and opt to move into a new house altogether.

Moving can reorganize your life in a fundamental way — it’ll change your routines, amenities, walking routes, and what you wake up to every day.

4. Downsizing

If you’re an empty nester, you may be wondering why you’re paying for so much empty space. When your kids have moved away from home, you may consider finding a smaller home with fewer bedrooms.

Downsizing is also an opportunity to go through the belongings you’ve inevitably collected over the years, and decide whether you’d like to keep them.

5. Family care responsibilities

Another common life change that prompts people to move is the need to care for an elderly or sick relative. If your parents or your spouse’s parents live in another city, taking care of them in their old age can be a challenge if there’s a long commute involved.

Some families choose to relocate the sick or older person near them, but others find it less disruptive for them to move closer to the relative. It’s a personal choice, but many do move for this reason.
